We understand the impact of trauma can infiltrate every aspect of your separation and experience of the family justice system. We know that without a clear understanding of how trauma affects behaviour, unjust decisions with far-reaching consequences can be reached.

The effects of trauma can impact your decision-making ability and judgement, your ability to instruct your legal team effectively, your ability to parent, your presentation when giving evidence, general demeanour and ability to cope with everyday life tasks.

We have devised and undertaken specialist training in trauma. We believe that having trauma at the forefront of our approach enables us to provide better support to you during your separation. We also believe it assists you in achieving better outcomes.

There are four main types of trauma responses: fight; flight; freeze and fawn. We are often able to recognise one or more of these reactions in you, sometimes before you are able to do so. The objective is to help you stay within your 'window of tolerance' and away from these trauma responses as much as possible.
